045 – March 2025: Final Fantasy VI vs. Chrono Trigger

March 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger, the first collaboration of Square and Enix, one of the greatest JRPGs ever made, and yet somehow this game is still not profitable to make a sequel to.

We discuss a lot about this game. Why it’s one of the better implementations of ATB. Why its time travel mechanics make sense and FFXIII-2’s do not. Why BlueHighwind is bad at games and can’t beat Radiant Historia, one of the dozens of games directly influenced by Chrono Trigger. Also there’s lots of news: Mecha Beatrix, another mobile game is shutting down, and a possible leak of the never-made FFIX cartoon.

This month’s FFWiki Podcast is hosted by Blue-“wow, you really had a called shot of no FFIX news just before they opened a website-Highwind, Techno-“I’ve never seen an anime”-Bliterator, and SomeColo(u)rMage. 044 – February 2025: The Top 22 or 21 (or whatever) Final Fantasy Romances

February is the month of love and stuff. If you’re into that. I dunno, romance is for girls. Gross.

Anyway, we’re ranking all the Final Fantasy romance plotlines. Which ones are good? Which ones are really really bad? Which ones merely exist? Can this series actually write women at all?

043 – January 2025: We’re Making Final Fantasy XVII

It’s 2025. FFVII Rebirth is on PC. Yup. That is literally the only news of the month, Final Fantasy or otherwise. We are all happy to live in uninteresting times.

Also we decided to make FFXVII. Turns out it’s really easy to make a Final Fantasy game if you’re just spitballing ideas at a fan fiction pitch meeting. Find out who Rain Swordblade is.

Game of the Year happened and we lost hard. But hey, we got ninety minutes of talking about stuff. There’s preppy bitchy Vincent. There’s the very stupid backstory for Sephiroth’s Masamune. There’s the history of the Bubble Bobble Franchise. SCM gives us the Calvinist theology behind Sphene’s latest evil scheme.

041 – November 2024: Playing FFXIV on a Commodore 64

The Game Awards nominees were announced and we’re in full punditry mode trying to predict the winners. Just how well will FFVII Rebirth do? It’s our Game of the Year (probably, I mean, still a month to go in 2024), but it will be the Dorito Pope’s? We also go down memory lane to find out what games the Golden Joystick Awards thought were GOTY in 1983, apparently that dogshit Ghostbusters game for the NES was a runner’s up. Different time, man.

Also… the election happened. :V

040 – October 2024: Heckin’ SomeColorMage

The FFWiki Podcast is the official podcast of https://finalfantasy.fandom.com, the biggest Final Fantasy Wiki on the internet – accept no substitutes.

This episode we discuss the 1996 John Frankenheimer disaster, The Island of Dr. Moreau. Or well, we don’t, we instead mourn the passing of two Final Fantasy mobile games. Or well, we don’t really do that either. We talk about the inevitable decay of cable network programming and inevitable decay of the Spoony One. And Moo Deng for a bit.

It’s an episode. We did the thing. That’s all I can say.

There’s BlueHighwind, there’s Techno, and there’s SomeComputerScienceMage, we’re all back together for this month celebrating FFXVI’s PC release and the weird history of Final Fantasy games on PC. Also discussed are Yoshi-P’s pleas for moral conduct in the modding scene, Nomura’s inevitable retirement, and a kind of grim acceptance that everything will end one day.

038 – August 2024: A Final Fantasy-themed NFL Preview

There’s a lot of news this month. Brave Exvius is closing down. There’s harassment against a voice actress. FF16 comes to PC.

But also I ramble for hour to help Final Fantasy fans understand football. If you’ve ever wondered why the Cleveland Browns remind you of Don Corneo, I’m here to explain that. Which team is Sephiroth? Which team is Lightning? Sportsball!

036 – June 2024: “Blame yourself or god”

The FFWiki Podcast is the official podcast of https://finalfantasy.fandom.com, the biggest Final Fantasy Wiki on the internet – accept no substitutes.

There’s no big Final Fantasy release to talk about yet because we recorded this a week ago and are not ready to discuss Dawntrail. So instead this month is basically just a generic video game podcast. The increasingly scare-quoted “E3” season has passed, we had some thoughts about it.

We talk about some Final Fantasy news, there’s not a ton. FFIX and Tactics remaster rumors. SE President “Kazuma” Kiryu is less interested in AI. Then it’s how excited we are for Zelda, AssCreed, Metroid, MGS, Demonschool, and how the bizarre 2010 Konami E3 conference still gives us life and energy years later.

This month’s FFWiki Podcast is hosted by BlueHighwind, a BlueHighwind that still has mic static and he legitimately does not know why (mic gain?), SomeColorMage and Technobliterator. Podcast music is “La Montana de los Caballos Jovenes” by XPRTNovice off the OC Remix Album Balance and Ruin, based on Mt. Koltz from FFVI. It’s really loud at the end this time. Really loud.
